Presenter, Youth and Science - Making the Connection

Dr. James Koropatnick
Professor and Acting Chair, Oncology, University of Western Ontario
Director, Cancer Research Laboratory Program and London Health Sciences Centre

Dr. James Koropatnick is Professor and Acting Chair of Oncology at the University of Western Ontario, as well as the Director of the Cancer Research Laboratory Program at the London Health Sciences Centre.

Dr. Koropatnick's research areas include drug resistance and essential metal homeostasis.

The aim of the Cancer Research Laboratory Program is to identify "resistance" genes that are stimulated by exposure to heavy metals and to examine their normal cellular functions, and the way they increase resistance. The ultimate goal is to enhance treatment in tumour cells by manipulating the activity of these genes and their products using metal, drug, and/or gene-based therapies.
