VROC - Virtual Researcher on Call
Virtual Researcher On Call (VROC) is a new Canadian educational initiative of
Partners In Research (PIR) that uses advanced videoconference technology to
link Canadian high school students in their classrooms with top researchers
and trainees in the scientific community.
The program provides a unique interactive learning opportunity for students
in all aspects of health research, science, technology, engineering and
mathematics.
For students, VROC heightens interest in the sciences as a career choice and
opens up a world of new opportunities by stimulating interest in the
scientific field(s). The project also broadens the knowledge base of science
teachers and provides direct involvement in engaging students in sciences at
a new level.
In this session, introduced by PIR Executive Director Ron Calhoun, Summit participants will tune in to a live VROC session led by Dr. James Koropatnick, Professor and Acting Chair, Oncology, University of Western Ontario; Director, Cancer Research Laboratory Program, London Health Sciences Centre. He will connect live with an Eastern Ontario high school science class in the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. Also participating over videoconference is Jeff Brown, the board's Instructional Leadership Consultant, Technology and Learning Resources.
