Award Categories

ORION Discovery Award

The ORION Discovery Award recognizes initiatives that successfully apply and leverage the unique capabilities of advanced networks and collaborative technologies to achieve significant outcomes in research and discovery.

Nominated initiatives may be in all fields of science and research, from life sciences to astrophysics to the social sciences.

Submissions in this category could include initiatives making use of:
  • shared collaborative platforms and technologies
  • distributed instruments and resources
  • high-performance or distributed computing
  • remote and/or distributed sensors
  • data-mining
  • innovative applications and software
ORION Learning Award

The ORION Learning Award recognizes the achievements of faculty, students and/or staff in organizations in the implementation of initiatives that make use of ORION and advanced networks to promote / facilitate successful examples of innovations in teaching, learning and training.

Submissions could include initiatives making use of:
  • shared resources and capabilities, such as databases, learning object repositories or library resources
  • innovative use of advanced videoconference and interactive technologies
  • distributed teaching and learning tools and resources
ORION Leadership Award

The ORION Leadership Award recognizes the achievements of an individual in either the public or private sector, for his or her significant contribution to advancing research, education, science, or discovery through the development and/or application of innovative information and communications technologies.

Nominees in this category may be academics, researchers, business or community leaders, or others who have made a significant contribution to the development and championing of transformative innovations in research, education, or technology. Nominees can also be recognized for their role in leading or developing a specific project or initiative that has had a significant institutional or organizational impact on research and education within an institution or within the broad research and education community. Nominees in the category may also be nominated for their lifelong commitment and leadership in building a strong and vibrant environment in support of research, education or scientific achievement and strengthening our province in the global environment.
