Submission Guidelines

FOR THE DISCOVERY AND LEARNING CATEGORIES:

Eligibility and Criteria

The ORION Discovery and Learning Awards are open to individuals or groups among the organizations connected to or associated with the ORION network. Nominees may be staff, faculty and/or students of the organizations and can include representatives of partner organizations, not excluding private sector partners.

The projects must be primarily based within Ontario, but can include partners outside the province. Projects or initiatives may only be nominated in one category.

Main criterion:
  • Project, initiative or group must demonstrate the creation or innovative use of collaborative tools, resources and/or technologies, enabled or facilitated by ORION or advanced networks, in supporting the work of researchers, educators and/or learners.
In addition, submissions should ideally address one or more of the following criteria:
  • Involve partners from more than one participating institution / organization, not excluding innovative partnerships with the private sector.
  • Leverages or facilitates the use of shared resources and capabilities among institutions and organizations.
  • Demonstrates current and/or potential impact on, or adoption by, the broader research and education community.
Format

Self-nominated or personal submissions will be accepted, as are submissions on behalf of a group or organization. An online or print version of the Official Entry Form found on the ORION Awards website must be completed and submitted, along with any supporting documentation, which could include project abstracts, endorsements and/or media clippings. Letters of support from individuals or organizations familiar with the initiative or person(s) being nominated may also be included. Submission information should be independently verifiable.

The ideal Discovery or Learning Awards submission should include the following elements:
  • Completed Official Entry Form (on the Submit page), including submission description and objectives.
  • Supporting documentation - e.g. testimonials and/or letters of support, media clippings / articles.
  • Signature of a primary contact / submitter.
FOR THE LEADERSHIP CATEGORY:

Eligibility and Criteria

The ORION Leadership Award is open to individuals in either the public or private sector, who reside in Ontario, and whose achievements and contributions have been primarily generated within Ontario.

Submissions in the Leadership category should ideally address all or most of the following general criteria:
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership in applying technology and innovation in support of research and education in Ontario.
  • Has demonstrated a high level of personal and professional achievement in his or her field, to the benefit of the greater research and education community.
  • Has contributed in a significant way to the development and adoption of new and innovative technologies that have had a transformative impact on the way we research, teach, learn and innovate.
Format

Self-nominated or personal submissions will be accepted, as are submissions on behalf of an individual Leadership nominee. An online or print version of the Official Entry Form found on the ORION Awards website must be completed and submitted, along with any supporting documentation, which could include personal profiles, essays, endorsements and/or media clippings. Letters of support from individuals or organizations familiar with the person being nominated may also be included. Submission information should be independently verifiable.

The ideal Leadership Award submission should include the following elements:
  • Completed Official Entry Form (on the Submit page).
  • Supporting documentation - e.g. testimonials and/or letters of support, media clippings / articles.
  • Signature of a primary contact / submitter.
  • Candidate's professional CV or similar documentation for consideration.
