Powering Innovation: A National Summit

Cyberinfrastructure and the environmental impact – and opportunities for information technology – are among the key topics to be explored at the joint ORION and CANARIE Summit, November 3 and 4, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).

Powering Innovation: A National Summit will bring together leading research, education, government and business leaders to focus discussions on network and technology needs to support Canada’s research and innovation infrastructure and advance our country’s role as a catalyst enabling leadership and excellence in science, research and learning.

A national program committee, representing some of the country’s top R&E innovators and leaders, is working with ORION and CANARIE to finalize the Summit’s program, and confirming keynote speakers, session chairs and panellists for an exciting program that will appeal to researchers, educators, technologists, government stakeholders, and private sector partners alike.

Sessions are being held under three main themes: Cyberinfrastructure, Network Innovations, and Partnerships and Collaborations.

The cyberinfrastructure track will explore topics such as high-performance computing, clouds and clusters, and innovations in the digital humanities and social sciences.

The partnerships track will offer sessions on education trends and technologies, collaborative research and discovery, virtual organizations, and exciting collaborations in design, the arts and entertainment.

The network innovations track will explore topics such as commercializing research, green IT, social networking, and more.

A full roster of distinguished Canadian and global leaders and innovators in science, research, education, and information technology are being confirmed as keynotes and will be announced shortly. The MTCC’s large venue will also accommodate the Summit’s 40 exhibitors and live demonstrations of advanced network technologies and innovations.

Early-bird online registration will be going live in the next few weeks. Visit the website for more information: www.orioncanariesummit.ca.
