Sheridan students shine brighter with online showcase
The Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville recently launched an online platform to showcase the talents of its students and faculty in animation, film/video, photography and other new media.

As a leader in digital media with over three decades of expertise in live action film and television production and award-winning visual effects and animation programs, Sheridan faculty have been looking for a way to showcase the talent that has been developed there.
Inspired by successful social media communities such as YouTube and Flickr, the Sheridan Shine Brighter community site goes one step further by allowing students to share not only visual content, but audio and written works as well. The site encourages students to collaborate and develop their creative and social networking skills.
The Shine Brighter online community will be a showcase for the diverse talent of Sheridan's students, faculty and alumni, providing them with a virtual playground in which to create, collaborate and share.
"We want to engage our students by providing them with a platform in the digital world in which they'll live and work," says Janine Gliener, Director of Marketing & Communications. "It's also a way for them to promote themselves to prospective employers."
This builds on the recent announcement that Sheridan will establish a new research centre for screen-based industries. The Digital Media Centre for Real-time Production, to be located in the heart of the filmmaking industry in Toronto, will conduct world-class research into film, digital cinema and high definition imaging technologies in a wide variety of areas from capture to delivery and archiving. It will also be adding a film and digital media studies component to the Centre, making it the first such initiative to establish a permanent educational campus within a studio complex in the heart of Toronto's film industry.
