Students ask Hill about book deal
Canadian students have a unique perspective on the news that film director Clement Virgo acquired the rights to Lawrence Hill's best-selling novel, The Book of Negroes. Students met the writer at last fall's live ABEL Interactive Author Session and national webcast over ORION and CANARIE networks, and asked the author about film deals and losing creative control. "It's another artistic product, and you have to get your head around that mighty fast, and so I would just take the money and run," said the writer. "I would be happy to use the money... to write another book, or two or three." Virgo hopes to develop an international co-production with British and South African partners. Video of the full interactive author session may be viewed online at http://blogs.abel.yorku.ca/abel-interactiveauthor/.
