ORION provides the connectivity between a number of Ontario’s High Performance Computing projects including The Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network (SHARCNET), SciNet, and the High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory (HPCVL).
These High Performance Computing projects process massive amounts of data that must be transported between institutions at an incredibly high speed. ORION provides the high-capacity bandwidth and fibre optic connection these projects need, facilitating ground breaking research all over Ontario that would not be possible without ORION.
ORION is assessing the needs and strategic opportunities for the future of Advanced Computing (AC) in Ontario through a special project called “ACTION – Advanced Computing Transforming Innovation in Ontario”. Find out more about the ACTION project >

“High Performance Computing and research computing are essential tools for researchers in all fields. ORION’s extensive network ensures that Ontario researchers have an advantage in accessing hardware, retrieving and sharing data and can collaborate with colleagues within the province and around the world.”
