ORION provides the connectivity between a number of Ontario’s High Performance Computing projects including The Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computing Network (SHARCNET), SciNet, and the High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory (HPCVL).
These High Performance Computing projects process massive amounts of data that must be transported between institutions at an incredibly high speed. ORION provides the high-capacity bandwidth and fibre optic connection these projects need, facilitating ground breaking research all over Ontario that would not be possible without ORION.
