Faces of Innovation: Improving blue-green algae detection in Ontario’s North

Blue-green algae blooms are a public health risk in Northern Ontario waterways — a challenge that Greg Ross, environmental researcher and professor at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is tackling head-on with ORION’s help. Working together with researchers at Thunder Bay’s Lakehead University and Laurentian University in Sudbury, watch how Greg is utilizing photography and data imaging analysis to better track, validate, and report blue-green algae blooms. These informed, expedited reports can significantly reduce health risks for people living near infected areas.
