ORION launches first Certified Chief Information Security Officer training workshop at THINK conference

TORONTO, Ontario – ORION is bringing one of the most well-regarded cybersecurity leadership training programs to Toronto on April 30-May 1 in conjunction with their 2018 THINK conference. EC-Council’s Certified Chief Information Security Officer (CCISO) is a first-of-its-kind, ANSI 17024-accredited training and certification program, aimed at producing top-level information security executives. Focusing on the application of information security management principles from an executive management point of view, the program was developed by CISOs for current and aspiring CISOs.

ORION has partnered with EC-Council to bring this CCISO Workshop to their THINK: Innovation Ecosystem conference, bringing the event to three full days of professional development for Ontario’s innovation sector.

ORION’s THINK conference annually brings together over 200 leaders from Ontario colleges, universities, school boards, hospitals, research, advanced research computing and cultural institutions, along with all levels of government for a day of insight into the future of Ontario’s innovation economy. This wide range of sectors all collectively form Ontario’s innovation ecosystem, and the conference will include a stream of content related to securing that ecosystem and its important data and collaborations from harm.

“Cybercrime will cost the world more than $6 trillion annually by 2021 and the demand for cybersecurity experts is expected to rise to 6 million globally by 2019,” says Danish Arshad, the Executive Director of EC-Council, referring to a recent report from Cybersecurity Ventures. “With a projected shortfall of 1.5 million, cybersecurity personnel have become one of the most sought-after resources in which organizations are looking to invest now. Canada is seeing a massive paradigm shift towards this issue and for the first time in 2018 both the Federal government as well as private companies are taking very strong measures to bring the cybersecurity maturity of Canadian enterprises and institutions on par with other developed countries. ORION’s CCISO workshop will help current and prospective cybersecurity leaders learn critical skills recommended by some of the best CISOs in the world, and to help build a strong cybersecurity posture, strategy and infrastructure for their respective organizations.”

“ORION has listened to our constituents and they’ve told us that security training is a top priority,” says Alfonso Licata, President and CEO of ORION. “We’re committed to helping Ontario’s research, education and innovation community maintain the security of their important assets. Everyone should have access to the best training available – so we’ve partnered to bring it to our own backyard. The more than 2 million students, researchers, educators and other innovators that we support across the province deserve it.”

This training will include many case studies and examples, and participants will be challenged to develop a business continuity plan for an organization in a particular situation, use metrics to communicate cyber risk to different audiences, and describe how to align a security program with the goals of the organization.

About CCISO:

The CCISO certification is an industry-leading program that recognizes the real-world experience necessary to succeed at the highest executive levels of information security.

EC-Council’s CCISO program has certified leading information security professionals around the world. A core group of high-level information security executives, the CCISO Advisory Board, formed the foundation of the program and outlined the content to be covered by the exam, the body of knowledge, and the training. Each segment of the program was developed with the aspiring CISO in mind and looks to transfer the knowledge of seasoned professionals to the next generation in the areas that are most critical in the development and maintenance of a successful information security program.

The CCISO program is the first of its kind training and certification program aimed at producing top-level information security executives. Instead of focussing solely on technical knowledge, the CCISO training looks at the application of information security management principles from an executive management point of view.

It is an exclusive training opportunity; to sit for the CCISO exam and earn the certification, candidates must meet the basic CCISO requirements. Candidates who do not yet meet the CCISO requirements but are interested in information security management can pursue the EC-Council Information Security Management (EISM) certification. They can then reapply to write the CCISO exam when they have acquired the necessary experience.

Important CCISO highlights:

  • ANSI/ISO17024 accredited
  • The highest paying cybersecurity leadership certification according to CertMag (above CISSP)
  • Rated as the top cybersecurity leadership certification with the highest growth in salary (labelled as Cert where Salaries Exploded) by Certmag
  • EC-Council’s CCISO member base includes many Fortune 1000 leaders and our CCISOs connect and
